Yeah, yeah. I haven’t figured out how to get pictures off the camera since we moved. Yes, it’s been 2 1/2 months. I know. Here’s an amazing quote from a man on staff at our amazing church back in Atlanta:
There is no eternal grading scale.
We have made the grade even though we fail.
As one who is constantly tempted to work to climb the spiritual ladder to get to the next highest step, this is good news. It’s freedom. It’s Grace and the knowledge that Christ has destroyed the grading scale and the ladder. I don’t need to climb.

We’ve laughed at this site for quite some time now. So funny, often at the edge (or over the edge) of acceptable humor and language (consider yourself forewarned), but definitely entertaining.

Tonight I’m also avoiding the inevitable by thinking about fun ways to decorate the girls’ bathroom. Our new house has a master bath, which, among other things, means I get to decorate a kids bathroom for the first time. Fun! The hall bath has a white vanity, SW Aquafoam walls (a great aqua that I saw at the Homestead near the Spa and called back later to find out what it was), and white tile in the shower.
I’m trying to decide what to do for the shower curtain and window treatment. There is nothing currently on any window in the house, no curtains or blinds, so the bathroom ones will get the first coverings. My original thought was to use this Michael Miller fabric

for both the shower curtain and window, however I’m having second thoughts and wondering if it might make the room feel too dark. Here are some other aqua/chocolate brown Michael Miller options:

I think this one might be my favorite:

Oh yeah, did I mention that I’m thinking of putting brown polka dots on the wall? So cute! It’s almost more fun to plan fun rooms than to actually make the plan happen.

Well, in an effort to avoid packing boxes, I’m posting tonight. I am tired of boxes and packing and not knowing where things are–whether they are at the old house or the new. In an effort not to whine, I am going to post about something fun, like decorating!
I am trying to decide between something like this old French-looking chandelier

and something more modern, but still lovely, like this one.

or this one:

The top one is from Ebay, and the bottom two are from Ballard Designs. If you haven’t discovered their catalogue, you really should. It’s full of pretty things. I especially like their custom upholstery pieces. Not that I own any, mind you, but one can always hope. The top chandelier is totally period appropriate for my house, and it could easily be found in any number of old houses in Lynchburg. I’ve never gotten to buy my own chandelier, so I’m kind of at a loss for what style to go for. Any opinions would be welcomed. Also, I recently found out that at least some of Ballard Designs’ lights can be found online for less at several other places. My favorite is LightingUniverse.com. I ordered my powder room light from them, and I was very pleased–so pleased that I might just order another just like it for my new powder room when the time comes.

Dear Internet,
I’m afraid that I haven’t been very good at keeping you abreast of everything that’s going on here. So here’s a recap of the last 2 months:
–Made the offer on the house, couldn’t reach agreement with sellers, contract was void after too much time passed
–VA had her first violin concert

–Got fabulous call from our fabulous realtor on Dec. 18th, saying, “I’ve got the best Christmas present for you ever. They’ve come back to the table, and they’re going to accept your offer!” We got the house! Total miracle–very cool!
– Had a lovely Christmas and a relatively quiet, but fun New Years.

–Put our house on the market, got an offer the first day, got another back-up offer 5 days later. WOW! It’s been miracle after miracle around here, actually. It was such a relief not to have to watch the house sit on the market, and especially with the housing market in such a slump. Definitely a blessing!
–Lined up painter, floor guy, plumber, dog fence guy, house inspectors, etc to see house. Busy, busy, lots of details.
–Went to my cousin Nina’s lovely wedding. We had such a good time–it was a great party.
Here’s my Mama dancing with my girls.

Hope I can be as cute as this when I’m in my 80s. Nannie dancing with my uncle Billy.
My parents danced too! Too bad I didn’t get a picture of Tom, who danced all night–literally!

Lucy & Pop

–We close on the new house/start moving in next Friday, and I haven’t packed a box. Hmmm…. I have, however, picked a bunch of paint colors, fabric for living room window treatments, and discovered all sorts of treasures in the yard. Fun.
So Internet, I hope this finds you well. Things here are progressing nicely and are a little crazy. Until next time…

This was a crazy week. Not a crazy week because of too many things to do, but a crazy week because of all the crazy things happening.
- On Monday, VA missed school with a 101 degree fever. Same one that AP had last week that landed her at the pediatrician’s office with an ear infection.
- On Tuesday, I had the same virus and felt terrible; also AP pulled the Christmas tree down on top of herself, spilling water all over the rug, breaking ornaments, and knocking half the lights and ornaments on the floor.
- On Wednesday, we made an offer on a house and sold our blue car, and I finally finished the curtains for my bedroom. (They’re hanging, and they look good.)
- On Thursday, we called Poison Control because AP drank/sloshed on her clothes 1/4 of a bottle of decongestant–she was fine.
- On Friday, we had freezing rain and school was cancelled, the girls got shots, we got to hang out with friends, my mom kept the girls for me all afternoon (so nice-Mama you’re the best!) and we got a disappointing counter-offer on the house (doesn’t look probable that we’ll get the house).
It was a big week. No wonder I’m exhausted. There have been times since I’ve had kids that I’ve thought that my life was totally boring and uninteresting. I told Adam tonight that this was definitely not a boring period…our lives are certainly interesting.

We put up our Christmas tree today. I know it’s kind of early, but this weekend worked better than next, and I didn’t want to wait until the 15th, so we put it up today. I think that it will not have a single needle left on it by the 25th, though–they’ll all be on my rug. I should have known when the guy at the tree lot shook it and a TON of needles fell off right there. Needless to say, we’ve already vacuumed needles up twice, and the second time I had to change my vacuum bag. Hmm…not a good sign.
Anyway, the girls were really cute helping to decorate this year. We started putting the lights on the tree and VA said, “What can I do? I’m old enough to help.” AP could not wait to start hanging ornaments and had dug half-way through the box of breakable ornaments by the time we found her and made her stop. After we finished the lights, Adam and I left the room to work on dinner, and they proceeded to adorn the tree with red, gold, and silver balls all by themselves. We walked back in the room the first time to find all of the balls lined up on a few branches–all in a neat little line. (Yes, in case you haven’t figured it out, we have at least one child who is destined to be type A–she has no chance to be anything else–it’s genetic.) So after explaining that you have to spread the ornaments out, we came in the next time to find them nicely spread out, but only on the bottom half of the tree, of course. So cute!

I asked my friend Kelli to take pics of the girls and me, and, as I expected, there are some real jewels! It was really part of an elaborate plan to get her out of her house in preparation for a surprise birthday party for her, but I am so thrilled that she actually said yes. Here are some of the best pics from that afternoon:
